About Us: Overview

Haitian-American Ministries (HAM), is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 1991 and headquartered in Houston, Texas. HAM works with organization and individuals in various cities within the United States and the Caribbean, particularly the country of Haiti. The word “Ministries” in HAM’s name does not refer to a religious association, rather it denotes ministering to the needs of the people.

Our Mission

Our mission is to serve as a channel for the personal and professional development of individual and community growth, enrichment, self-reliance and self-empowerment through the creation and implementation of specific programs and services related to health, education, and culture in the United States, Haiti, South Africa, and other countries and cultures.

Our Goals

HAM’s goal through the implementation of our programs and our interaction with people within the United States and abroad is to encourage the evolution of a world that is more peaceful, harmonious, understanding and tolerant. A world that uses this resultant energy as the base for personal, business, and life transactions. These actions ultimately contribute to the healing of our planet and humanity.

HAM’s goals and philosophy encompass self-empowerment; personal, professional and community development; and cultural-exchange in the areas of health, education, and culture from a holistic approach. Having created, coordinated, and implemented various programs in and for Haiti, examples of past work include:

  • Collecting, organizing, shipping, and distributing more than $2M of food, school supplies, medicine, and medical supplies,
  • Providing educational sponsorship and scholarships for more than 50 children and young adults,
  • Conducting health fairs throughout the years for Haiti’s populace who have little or no health care resources available, and
  • Coordinating interactive speaking engagements in various schools about the commonalities between youth in Haiti and youth in the United States.
Realizing “taking care of home” is important; HAM works collaboratively with many local community organizations within the United States to provide support to local US communities and Haitian-Americans. Some forms of domestic support include:
  • Creating, implementing, and performing cultural "Arts in Education" pieces (music, art, history) that focuses on the commonalities, differences, and cultural fusion of countries on the Continent of Africa, Haiti and the Caribbean, and their various impacts on the cultures of the United States. These interactive programs have been performed for city/county libraries and school systems.
  • Creating and coordinating local professional legal teams in the United States to work with community residents pro bono or on a sliding scale basis
  • Speaking to students, both in the United States and Haiti about the historical impact of Haitian History on American History, and the commonalities and differences between the cultures
  • Working with various youth projects (mentor, Juvenile Court Volunteers, etc.).
