Q: Does the word ministries in the name of HAM indicate an affiliation or association with any specific religion or church group?
The word “Ministries” in HAM’s name does not denote a religious association. The use of the word “ministries” pertains to ministering to the needs of the people.
Q: Does HAM have a political agenda?
HAM is a humanitarian non-profit organization and since it’s inception has been apolitical. However, apolitical does not translate to indifference or apathy. HAM is ever cognizant of the cultural, social, economic, and political sensitivities associated with developing nations and remains respectful of the process.
Q: How does one know goods and supplies collected will reach the people of Haiti?
HAM has the experience of delivering aid to Haiti during trying times. In 1994 HAM arrived three weeks after the Marines landed and began armed occupation In Haiti. During that time alone HAM successfully shipped and delivered approximately $2M of medicine, medical supplies, food, and other goods.
HAM personally conducts several site visits to recipient organizations to ensure patients and those given services actually receive benefit of donations. In addition, HAM conducts health fairs, works with various medical facilities, and holds public food distributions throughout the year for the general populace of Haiti.
Donors and sponsors are encouraged to participate in a working vacation by going to Haiti with HAM to work in a health fair and/or public food distribution.
Q: Is relief aid the only work HAM is involved with?
Relief aid efforts are just one aspect of HAM’s work. HAM’s programs are designed to promote self-empowerment; personal, professional, and community development; self-reliance; and cultural-exchange in the areas of health, education, and culture from a wholistic perspective. To that end, HAM has cultural, health and educational projects. HAM’s health component includes using the Red Cross HIV/Aids Peer Educator program as part of our global/e-classroom curriculum. HAM’s educational programs include a global/E-classroom project that uses the United Nations Peacekeeping and Sustainable Development modules as part of its foundation.
